Who is planning to move away BEFORE the next spray?

Postby Dorothyg on Mon Feb 25, 2008 10:29 am

Please post here if you are considering or planning to move away before the spray resumes on June 1st in Monterey/Santa Cruz and on August 1st in Bay Area. I would like to begin to compile a count of people who are making such plans to use in our advocacy efforts.

If you are considering moving away, please give the following information:
(1) your city of residence
(2) reason for planning to move away, such as your own illness, illness of child, pregnancy, or any other concern that would cause you to leave.
(3) hardships that this move will cause in your life: e.g., giving up your job and source of income; leaving friends and family; having to sell your home in a hurry in depressed market; leaving your established medical care providers, etc.

I live in Oakland and realize that I will have to move away if we cannot stop the spraying, prior to August 1st. I have asthma and another respiratory illness bronchiectasis. After reading the illness reports, I realize I would not survive the spraying.

With the plans to spray three nights a month, and to re-spray every thirty days, and with the timed-release capsules releasing the ingredients during the days in-between, obviously leaving the area for a short time would do no good whatsoever.

I think that the devastating impact and hardship this is posing is a story that needs to be told.
thanks Dorothy

Dorothy,

I am glad you are doing this. I will send others I know who are leaving or have left already to this site. I live in Aptos. I have chronic fatigue syndrome. I got very sick the first time that Santa Cruz got sprayed. I left for the spraying and came back 6 days later. After 6 days of being here I left for a month at great financial expense and leaving my daughter somewhat unsuperivsed after school for the first time until my husband could get home. I do not have a job or own a home but I have a husband and daughter who are centered here with school and work. I have a doctor here who I will no longer be able to see.
The economic hardship is frightening. For our family, having lost a child three years ago,it is especially painful to have more separation and loss in our family. I do not know if they will be able to join me and I cant stay. They are spraying so much of the monterey and sf bay areas it's hard to stay close. There is the issue of pesticide drift and where to live. My daugher has mild asthma and was not bothered by the spray but we were only sprayed once. Some people in Monterey got sick on the second month they sprayed.I returned home after a month to feel sick, especially after the rain, for at least two months with symptoms I've never experienced before and with an increasing chemical sensitivity that frightened me. Just yesterday I thought I wish someone was documenting the cost, hardship, interruption and stress in our lives. I know people who are relocating to areas where they know absolutely no one, leaving behind a solid support network just to be able to breathe.

I've heard many people are purchasing Recreational Vehicles (RV) and leaving their home while the spraying is going on.

My husband and I have lived in Pacific Grove since 1970 and started our insurance business there in 1971.

I have lung damage from Valley Fever and I have asthma, but had not had an attack for more than three years. I became very ill after the spraying, suffering repeated asthma attacks along with flu like symptoms. I left for two months, two weeks at a time, but always becoming ill again upon returning. Amazingly, I had no asthma problems while I was away, even the two weeks I spent in FRESNO with my sister. After two months my symptoms were better but not completely gone.

If they spray for 9 months a year I cannot live here at all. Leaving for two months won't work. If they spray, we will have to leave. We will have to close our business. Our employees will not have jobs and our community will lose an honest, reputable, service-award winning insurance agency. The thought of leaving our community, that we love, where we planed to retire, and selling our home that we have just remodeled makes me heart sick. We also purchased a home for my 80 year old parents and moved them here 3 years ago. My mother had problems with the spray as well. They have already decided to leave. If this continues, we will be forced to sell both Pacific Grove homes in this depressed market. We are fortunate to have inherited a second home in the Sierras, we can go there for now but if the spraying continues for years, as CDFA has planned, we are unsure how we will proceed. Our grandparents came to CA to farm. We've been here ever since, we have been loyal Californian's and proud Americans. We are considering not only leaving the area but the state and in light of the fact that USDA is funding this attack on on health and our constitutional rights, we have even talked about leaving the country.

Hi all,

I also plan to get out of dodge before the next round of spray. I live in Capitola and was home I the night that Santa Cruz County was doused with the LBAM spray. I have lived in/around Santa Cruz for 40+ years and had never had any respiratory problems until December 2007 (wheezing, shortness of breath, phlegmy). I understand another round of spray is scheduled to be released in the June 2008 time frame - if true, before it happens, I will close up my house, pack up my children, and leave town. I don't know the financial impact yet - I don't want to leave forever, but feel I MUST NOT BE HERE for several days after the next hit. After reading some of the other blogs, it seems that not even a week is long enough, much less than the time it will take the particulates that are in the grasses, falling from trees, basically in and on everything (as designed) to dissipate. I feel like I'm in an Erin Brokovich type situation with no way to help myself or my children... Best wishes to you all.

Hello Good People,

I have lived in the bay area and marin for 23 years. We are planning to move because of the spray. Am not sure how pesticide drift works, but beginning during the Santa Cruz spray, myself and my partner both had severe coughs that lasted for months. My partner hasn't had a cough in years. I still have a cough that won't go away, that has yellow phelgm and I'm a health conscious vegan. We don't have enough money to move, but will take out a loan to move if the spray is going to occur - against the will of the people of California.

I will miss the grand redwood trees, the deer, squirrels, birds, ducks, bees, foxes and even the bobcat and coyote that occasionally pass through my yard. They have become my friends, and each critter has a name. It is a sad day when nature and humanity is so brutally attacked by the very people that are supposed to "protect" us, all for a manmade printed dollar bill, and an oh so interesting grand experiment.

We are currently seeking high and low, every state on the map of where to go that has clean air, organic food, and kindhearted, open minded people. Also trying to figure out what state will be safe from the aerial pesticiding of humans - this isn't about a moth. Can't afford to move out of the country, then again if you do some research, you'll see that this is happening around the globe.

To those who so desperately want to spray the good people of California, please come to each city during the actual spraying, stand outside on the street and welcome the planes with open arms and an open mouth as they spray you - then we might have something to cheer about, you know, it's "harmless".

Let's work to stop this insanity, pray it doesn't happen, and stay strong. Peace and Love to All

My daughter and I have Lyme Disease and asthma on top of that. Yes, sadly, my 2 year old daughter and I will have to leave our home California if the spray happens. This spray will tear our family apart. We will have to leave my husband/her daddy behind to run his company, and will only see him every couple of weeks. He's never been apart from our daughter for more than a couple days and it's very upsetting to him (and me). If this spray continues, I hate to think what effect it might have on our marriage and the family life we currently enjoy.

We live in Marin Co., but will be renting a small house in the Las Vegas, NV area if they spray. I will be alone in a new town, and my husband will fly in when he can. Needless to say, this will be a financial burden to us, and the stress of not having my partner by my side will not be good for my illness.
